What risks do safety shoes in oil refineries mainly protect against ?

 I. Requirements for the Upper Material :

Option 1: Microfiber Leather (Ultra-Fine Leather) - 

The Mainstream Material in Modern Oil Refineries .

This is a material that is highly favored by petrochemical enterprises in Europe and America at present.

1. Using 1.6-2.0mm Microfiber Leather offers several advantages. firstly, it has excellent oil resistance, effectively preventing the contamination from gasoline and diesel. additionally, it is less prone to sticking and cracking compared to ordinary PU.

2. It has better chemical stability and can last longer when exposed to weak acids, weak bases and cleaning agents.

Option 2: Full Grain Cow Leather (Full Grain Cowhide)

This type of shoe upper material is suitable for maintenance, installation and equipment construction. its thickness is approximately 1.8 - 2.2mm. its advantages include resistance to tearing, wear resistance and collision prevention.

Special treatment requirements for the shoe upper ；

1.Oil-resistant treatment is designed to prevent oil from penetrating.

2.Water-resistant - The purpose is to prevent cleaning water, rainwater and chemical liquids from entering.

II. Requirements for the Toe Cap : 

The oil refinery is not without the risk of being hit. There are numerous pieces of equipment, tools, valves and parts, and they still need to be protected against being hit.

Nowadays, Composite Toe Cap is increasingly being used. The reasons are as follows: 

1. It is lightweight and suitable for long-term inspections. 2. It does not conduct heat, making it more comfortable when close to high-temperature equipment. 3. It is not affected by magnetic fields.

   Of course, Steel Toe is also widely used.

Routine inspections are suitable for standards : In Europe, the EN ISO 20345 standard is applicable. Common grades: S1P - resistant to impact, puncture, and static electricity.

The maintenance personnel are suitable for the higher-grade S3 model, which includes anti-shatter, anti-puncture protection and waterproof upper.

III. Requirements for the Midsole : 

                                           Refineries need to be divided according to positions.

1.For routine inspections, steel plates are not always necessary. S1/S1P can be used instead.

2. For the maintenance position, Kevlar Anti-Puncture Midsole is recommended. The purpose is to prevent the falling of metal fragments, screws, and tools. The standard is EN ISO 20345: P ≥ 1100N.

IV. Requirements for the Shoe Outsole : this is the core of the safety shoes for the oil refinery.

1. Anti-slip SRC is necessary because one of the most common accidents in oil refineries is slipping. The environment contains a lot of oil, water and chemical liquids. The standard: EN ISO 20345 SRC .

2. Must be resistant to oil. The recommended sole material is PU/Rubber Dual Density. this material offers the advantages of being lightweight, comfortable, and resistant to oil.

Or Nitrile Rubber Sole, which has the advantage of being more resistant to oil and heat, and is suitable for high-risk areas.

3. Anti-static A is extremely important. According to standard EN ISO 20345 A, its function is to control the release of static electricity from the human body.

4. HRO heat-resistant (optional). If located near the furnace area or heat pipelines, the requirement is: HRO, capable of withstanding 300℃ contact with heat.

V. Requirements for Lining ；

Refineries have high requirements for comfort. We recommend using Breathable Mesh Lining instead of designing overly thick winter cotton, as many areas in the refinery have relatively high temperatures.
