The drilling site is one of the most risky areas in the oil industry,the biggest risks on a drilling platform are getting injured or pierced.
High-top boots are more suitable. the upper part of the shoes is made of waterproof thick leather, the toe cap is made of steel first, the midsole is made of puncture-resistant Kevlar, and the sole is the most important for oil resistance+ anti-slip wear-resistant.

I: Drilling Safety Boots Shoe Surface Requirements:
First choice: Full Grain Leather (Full-grain cowhide), recommended thickness 1.8 - 2.2mm / Oil-treated Leather / Water-resistant Leather, the reason is that in the drilling site, there are frequent situations such as steel wire rope friction, pipe impact, and rock scraping. therefore, the upper of the shoes must:
✅ Have high tear resistance✅ Be wear-resistant✅ Be impact-resistant.
Ordinary shoes usually use mesh fabric or PU leather/ thin microfiber, which are not suitable for drilling.
2.The waterproofing requirements are higher than those for ordinary oil fields. the drilling area contains a large amount of drilling fluid (Mud), water, and chemical additives.
Therefore, a Water Resistant Upper or even a Waterproof Construction is required to prevent the mud from entering the shoe and causing the feet to remain wet for a long time.
II: Toe Protection Requirements:
The basic requirements for drilling safety boots are Steel Toe Cap or Composite Toe, which must comply with the standard of European EN ISO 20345, at least S3 level, including 200J impact and 15kN pressure, or American ASTM F2413,the requirements are: Impact resistance and Compression resistance.
Why are the drilling tools more likely to be made of steel? Because the drilling rods, drill bits and steel pipes on the site are extremely heavy. compared to the inspection work at the oil refinery, drilling requires higher resistance to impact.
III.Midsole Requirements (Anti-Puncture Midsole) , this is the core of the drilling safety boot.
We recommend Kevlar Anti-Puncture Plate or Steel Plate. The reason is that there are many ground steel nails/metal debris/drilling tool parts at the drilling site, to prevent punctures to the sole of the feet. the standard is European EN ISO 20345 P, puncture resistance: ≥1100N, or American ASTM F2413 PR.
Why not use regular midsoles? ordinary industrial shoes do not have a puncture-resistant layer, and the ground risks in oil fields are significantly higher.
IV:Shoe Outsole Requirements:
1. Anti-slip measures are crucial : In the drilling site, the most dangerous situation is not getting injured from falling but slipping. the ground is mixed with crude oil, mud, water and drilling fluid, so it is essential to implement Anti-slip SRC.
2. The sole is oil-resistant : It must be an Oil Resistant Sole. the recommended materials are Nitrile Rubber or Rubber + PU dual-density. this is because ordinary PU may expand or soften when exposed to oil.
3. Anti-heat sole HRO (in cases where it is necessary for certain positions), if close to the engine/drilling equipment, an HRO Heat Resistant Outsole is required., the standard is a 300℃ contact test.
V.Requirements for the inner lining of shoes:
The drilling work usually lasts for 10 to 12 hours, requirements: Moisture Wicking Lining. the material is generally Mesh/Cambrelle/Polyester moisture control, which is designed to reduce foot sweat/blisters/fungi.
In cold regions such as Russia and Central Asia, adding Thinsulate or Fleece lining is recommended.
