The acid and alkali resistant chemical protection safety boots are mainly designed for situations where workers are exposed to liquid chemicals for a long time or where there is a high risk of splashing.
Typical industries include pickling , electroplating , chemical filling, hazardous chemical handling, wastewater treatment, chemical emergency response, some mining and metallurgical acid-base treatment processes.
The greatest risk here is no longer "will the shoes be scratched", but the chemical liquids seeping into the shoes causing burns; the shoe surface and sole being rapidly corroded by chemical media; and standing for a long time on acid-base liquids or contaminated ground.
Therefore, the focus of product design has shifted to: overall chemical protection + waterproofing + safety protection.
The mainstream products in the industry are mid-calf safety boots and high-calf safety boots (Knee Boots).
Mid-calf boots (with a height usually ranging from 25 to 30 cm) are suitable for use in chemical filling, electroplating, acid washing, and cleaning stations.
Knee Boots have a height of 35 to 40 cm and are suitable for use in acid and alkali pools, wastewater tanks, chemical spill sites, firefighting and emergency situations.

I. Requirements for Upper Material (Shoe Upper) ;
This type of product is usually not traditional leather shoes, but rather ones that are molded as a whole or made of high-chemical-resistance materials.
Recommended Solution 1: PVC (the most common type) is suitable for general acids, bases, cleaning agents, salts, and humid environments. its advantages include water resistance, low cost, easy cleaning, and an overall injection molding with a seamless design. It is suitable for most acid washing, electroplating, and wastewater treatment environments.
Recommended Option 2: Nitrile Rubber (Diallyl Rubber) is suitable for oils, fuels, and various chemical media. its advantages include superior oil resistance compared to PVC, good wear resistance, better high-temperature performance, and a higher price.
Recommendation Option Three: Neoprene (chloroprene rubber) is suitable for some acids, bases, and certain organic chemicals. It is commonly used in high-end chemical-resistant boots.
It is important to note that there is no single material that can withstand all chemicals. for instance, PVC, nitrile rubber, and chloroprene rubber have varying levels of tolerance to different acids, bases, oils, and organic solvents. you will select the appropriate material based on the specific chemicals that the customer comes into contact with, rather than assuming that the boots can withstand all acids, bases, and solvents in a general sense.
II. Shoe Toe Cap :
It is still recommended to install steel toe caps or composite toe caps, this meets the requirements of EN ISO 20345 200 J for impact protection and 15 kN of compressive strength.
III. Midsole :
Whether it needs to be puncture-resistant depends on the specific working conditions. it is recommended to divide the product line into two categories:
Ordinary chemical protection boots do not have a puncture-resistant layer. They are suitable for indoor chemical handling, chemical filling, and clean areas.
The puncture-resistant and chemical-resistant boots are equipped with Kevlar or Steel Midsole. they are suitable for acid washing workshops, wastewater treatment, chemical maintenance, and outdoor chemical facilities. They can meet the puncture resistance requirements of EN ISO 20345.
IV. Shoe Bottom (Outsole) :
This is the core of the entire pair of boots, it requires the following at the same time:
①Chemical Resistance (resistant to chemical media). however, compatibility should be confirmed based on the actual contact medium.
②Oil Resistance (FO) (resistant to lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, and mineral oil) to prevent the shoe sole from expanding and softening.
③Slip Resistance (SR) (common on chemical environment floors with water, oil, and chemical liquids) requires high-grip patterns.
④Waterproof (the entire boot is waterproof). it should not be merely Water Resistant.
V. Lining :
Depending on the application, PVC injection boots often do not have a traditional fabric lining. the advantage is that they are easy to clean and do not absorb chemicals. High-end products can add Polyester Lining or Moisture Wicking Fabric to enhance comfort.
If we look at global B-side procurement (Europe, America, Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa), steel-tipped acid and alkali resistant protective safety boots are the mainstream product. Acid and alkali resistant protective safety boots with steel tips and puncture-resistant midsoles are mainly used in industrial settings; pure protective safety boots are mainly used in environments with lower mechanical risks such as food, hygiene, or laboratories.
That is to say, when making purchases, a risk assessment is usually conducted first. besides chemical risks, are there any mechanical risks? if there are mechanical risks, then consider using steel toe safety boots with puncture-resistant midsoles and acid and alkali resistant properties.
